Today a 5.0 aftershock... How terrifying for the children. This was the first day back to school for a lot of kids.

Will begin baking for my first orders this week. Maybe that will help purchase new pajamas or shoes for the children of Pwoje Espwa... Father Marc posted on his blog the sweetest picture of a little girl pleased as can be in her new PJ's.....what a gorgeous smile! I'll carry her image in mind today......

Searching the internet I found Pwoje espwa Sud.... an orphanage and school doing great work. I wrote the director, Father Marc yesterday and told him about my project. Here's his response:

"Thank you for what you are doing. The destruction here was devastating in so many ways.  It will be a very long road to recovery and we will need all the help we can get.

As you probably picked up from my blog or our website, we have almost 700 resident children here in southern Haiti.  We run seven schools (including a fledgling vocational training school), a small clinic that cares for our kids and our neighbors, an agricultural program, a feeding program for 800 families and a soup kitchen for street children.  We need a lot of help to keep this going and your offer is much appreciated."

Dear Sweet Child,
I wonder what the week brings to you....
Do you have anything eat?
Do you have shelter from the hot sun?
I pray for an angel above to watch over you....

I've finished my cookie! I'll have it posted on my website soon.

I spent the last two days researching a bit. I learned a of a few orphanages that are small. Although, it's hard to get information, or they are part of larger organizations. My former case worker also works with an a Haitain orphanage. So, that great news. River of Hope, a small orphanage with about 20 kids. I'll see if I can get more info about that. That might be where I start....

Next step, marketing the cookie to start earning funds......

PRAYER OF ST FRANCIS

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace. Where there is hatred...let me sow love. Where there is injury...pardon. Where there is doubt...faith. Where there is despair...hope.

This morning a big story about We Are the World recording. I remember when the world came together to feed the children in Africa. This will surely go a long way to help.

I've decided to make a cookie with the profits going to Haitian children. If adoption isn't the answer, then perhaps making the children's current environment a better place is. There are so many great organizations Red Cross, Save the Children, World Vision etc. that are on the ground helping now. My goal is to find a smaller organization or orphanage to help directly. So, the first step will be researching the names of specific orphanages and the people running them. I think I know where to start......

There was much thought given to the cookie idea. At first I wanted to make a heart shaped cookie - perhaps with some children's art work (from my own children). Not sure I liked that..... I changed my mind.  I'm going with a bright yellow sun..... Thinking of naming it "Ray of Hope" or "Rays of Hope" cookie. I'm up for any suggestions! So, all profits made from the cookie will go to the organization/orphanage I find. I'm making the prototype this week. I'll post a photo.
